The Playmakin Zabe Interview

Rising Star Spotlight: Playmakin Zabe – From Marlin to the Masses

Straight out of Marlin, Texas, Playmakin Zabe is turning hometown dreams into industry moves. Motivated early on by his peers who recognized his raw talent, Zabe took music seriously once it was clear he had something special—and the numbers are backing that up.

His latest EP, "BLK Sheep," released in January 2025, is already pushing close to 30,000 streams, signaling a strong and loyal fanbase that's only growing. But Zabe isn’t just building buzz—he’s breaking into major spaces. His heartfelt single "Heart So Cold" has landed two movie placements, marking his arrival as an artist whose music resonates beyond the booth.

Back in 2021, Zabe locked in a distribution deal with LiveMixtapes, a major milestone that led to a personal relationship with the platform’s CEO, Peshh. That early industry co-sign opened new doors, and more big names started to take notice.

His track “Shine Bright” caught the attention of BWA artist FL Dusa, earning Zabe a powerful co-sign and sparking rumors of a collaboration in the works. Even more exciting—he’s hinting at a possible signing with one of his musical idols, none other than Kevin Gates.

Zabe’s work ethic is undeniable. He's constantly flying from Texas to California to lock in with elite producers like Austin Martin, CioMadeTheTrack, and Tim Curry—three certified heavyweights shaping the sound of his upcoming EP “Hometown Hero.” Meanwhile, his YouTube views are steadily climbing, building a strong digital presence to match his IRL grind.

And there’s more in the tank. Zabe is prepping for the release of his summer mixtape, "Park St Baby," continuing his tradition of making music rooted in authenticity and ambition. With familial ties to NFL Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson, legacy runs deep—but Zabe is determined to carve his own.

Beyond music, Zabe is thinking long-term. He plans to launch his own label and build a funding program for emerging artists facing the same struggles he overcame. It's not just about making it—it’s about creating a platform for others to rise, too.

From Texas to Cali, co-signs to placements, Playmakin Zabe is proving he's more than an artist—he’s a movement. And he’s just getting started.
